Saving Grace

Well I told a friend today ---
Some truths that shouldn’t have got out --- limp along in a broken state.
What seemed correct by evening will be tomorrow’s harm.
Disaster strikes when I’ve been drinking --- disaster follows me home.
But I work hard on the basis of denial ---
Such a saving grace when honesty’s out of style.
My best friend’s gone AWOL --- don’t make them casualties of your war.
The safety is off now --- help the wounded up off the floor.
