Silver Song
It’s night time again but this isn’t Los Angeles,
I’m on the islands of Britain
In a grim Northern town I’ve seen clamber and fall back down
Shier for having been bitten
This is the cinematic backdrop
For all that’s gone down in my life up to now
It’s a soundtrack formed from discourse and discord
And all of the sounds that’re haunting me now
Won’t you listen?
Won’t you listen?
Oh, I’m sat here again to let the ink from my pen
Bleed all over this faintly ruled paper
Then I’m typing it out as if some idea came out
That was worth returning to later
It’s just some clumsy chords I’ve heard elsewhere before
Only in some better arrangement
But this is what I please, I am singing for me
And anyone who cares for the engagement
Won’t you listen?
Won’t you listen?
These waves break upon these shores
But all I hear is loud applause
It is broken machinery and stuttering beats
It’s the green and the grey of these damp Yorkshire streets
It is here in my heart, I wear it on my sleeve
It is dirt, it is brass, it is all that I need
And if I were to leave, what would I take with me?
I'd take what I could of my own self-belief
As all my indie heroes have had to grow up
I know too well I should probably shut up —-
Won’t you listen?
Won’t you listen --- won’t you listen --- won’t you listen to me?
Won’t you listen --- won’t you listen --- won’t you listen to me?

Songbird
Hey, little songbird, sing me your song
I’ve been away for so long
The time that we had once is now gone
So give me one last one
The sun has set, melted into the West
And there’s a chill in the air
There are eyes that peep when you cannot see
You can’t see them but they’re there
Hey, little songbird, sing me your song
I’ve been away for so long
The time that we had once is now gone
So give me one last one
When the moon is bright, never travel by night
The roads are dangerous out
Close your eyes, it will all be alright
If you sing the best can now
Heavy and wild, like the sea
Like the churning of my dreams
See the writhing in the deep
The rising waves’ cresting peaks
Out on the longest killstreak
Like a Sparrowhawk with it’s hooked beak
I see danger…
Hey, little songbird, sing me your song
I’ve been away for so long
The time that we had once is now gone
So give me one last one
