“Silence in Court!”
“I met God but he was not what you might expect
He was mercifully kind but I was still dead”
Hey boy we're not through with you --- judgement's come around
“If I recall, my name was Henry, as lowly-born as anyone can be
This starting to scare me now. Hey, what's this all about?”
Hey boy we're not through with you --- judgement's come around
Oh these waves of sorrow!
Hey boy we're not through with you --- judgement's come around
“I wound up a court room so dreadfully plain
Dragged out like a criminal and asked to explain
The decisions I made and how I lived life
And it’s all rushing back to me”; “(not all of it’s nice)”
Hey boy we're not through with you --- judgement's come around
"Order! Order, you lifeless rabble"
Bang! Down came his mighty gavel
Hey boy we're not through with you --- judgement's come around
Hey boy we're not through with you --- judgement's come to town
Hey boy we're not through with you --- judgement's come around

Let Us Go Back
03:19
|
|||
At the turn of the century
Things weren’t so great
It was kind of barbaric ---
The poverty into which I came
A social order
From another age
It shackled me tight
And would have suppressed me to the grave
I ran
For Dear Life
I ran
And I closed my eyes.
And I try to remember my mother
She was… gentle and kind
Unlike my brute of a father ---
An aggressive drunkard, most of the time
I must have been around ten
When it really hit home
That this was no life here
And one day I would kill him or go
I ran
For Dear Life
I ran
And I closed my eyes.
So I let it be known
That I was leaving home
This place --- had a sickness
That through the years, I had come to know
And I knew there’d be hell on
When he got back
But I boarded that train anyway
And I, I never looked back
I ran
For Dear Life
I ran
And I closed my eyes.
I ran
For Dear Life
I ran
And I closed my eyes.
Tight.

Old-Fashioned Fear
03:01
|
|||
I never ever thought you’d let me down
I never ever thought that you would let me down
Broke your mother’s heart to play your games
Broke your mother’s heart and you have brought us shame, shame, shame
There is no mystery here
Old fashioned fear
A bloody tale with no end near
You know your Daddy’s here
No need to fear
Just kill your dreams, be home for tea
Do you hear me!?
Just kill your dreams, be home for tea
There is no mystery here
Old fashioned fear
A bloody tale with no end near
You know your Daddy’s here
No need to fear
Just kill your dreams, be home for tea
There is no mystery here
Old fashioned fear
A bloody tale with no end near
You know your Daddy’s here
No need to fear
Just kill your dreams, be home for tea
Do you hear me!?
Just kill your dreams, be home for tea
Just kill your dreams, be home for tea

Eyes Closed
02:43
|
|||
I said, "Just kiss me. Kiss me with your eyes closed,
I know Saint Christopher won't care"
And later, I wrote a note in my notebook ---
I was hoping for some CONNECTION there, and the signals were good.
You said, “So kiss me, with your eyes closed
Tonight we head for the stars
I declare that these roads are ours, Love
And we will stop for no one there, oh, they'll try, but we won’t
I will remember your bod
From the first time, to the very last
Just kiss me, kiss me with your eyes closed
I wrote "tonight is the night", we fit like puzzle pieces at last.
Just kiss me. Kiss me with your eyes closed
Just kiss me. Kiss me with your eyes closed
Just kiss me. Kiss me with your eyes closed
I learned it’s easier to set to sail on the seas
Than to stay at home with a crying baby
So to my shame, I sought another path
I thought better that than turn out like my old man
Yes, I ran
For Dear Life
I ran
And I closed my eyes.
Tight.

The Old Lie
02:21
|
|||
Then Kitchener calls, I’ve seen his posters on the factory walls
He says, “What will stand if freedom falls?”
If we fight, if we stand, if we gather in a gang
Man the blockade, today is the day to make war!
By jingo! By all that’s Holy
This is a young man’s folly
And an old man’s crime
I took my chance, travelled to France, dug into the mud
Knee-deep in blood and oh Lord, they called it The Great War!
Physically tired, physically sick, physically reeling from the thick of it
Deaf to the blasts, the choking gas and any breath could be my last
By jingo! By all that’s Holy
This is a young man’s folly
And an old man’s crime
Back home, enemy boats off the East coast
Came through in the news, they died from their wounds
By Christ! And all that’s Holy
I never got to say I’m sorry
As her face fades…

Here Lies Henry
04:13
|
|||
Here lays the body of Henry
Cold and ill-prepared to face the night
Hooray for our old friend Henry!
He only just got out in time
And the world has grown fuzzy
Like a fog settling thick across the land
It breaks my heart to see him, dying
Clutching his wound in his hands
Still Time, Time, Time is ahead of him
And Time, Time, Time has plans for him
He looks gaunt under the searchlight
As the doctors try desperately to attend
While he retreats into shock, he is bleeding from the hip ---
There’s a strong possibility that this is the end (NO!)
And he's away with the færies
He’s thinking of his girl, she’s waiting back Home
But She is eight hundred miles away. There’s eight hundred dead men ---
Eight hundred dead men between him and Home
Still Time, Time, Time is ahead of him
And Time, Time, Time has plans for him
Sunlight streams through the window
The rattling trolley delivers tea
He's struggling to move, like a weight’s pressed down hard on his chest
Pinned down on the bed --- shooting pain in his leg --- on the white linen sheets
And they tell him that he's lucky
They say he’s one of the few…
Why then, does he feel so helpless and empty
At night when he’s alone in the room?
Still Time, Time, Time is ahead of him
And Time, Time, Time has plans for him
Still Time, Time, Time is ahead of him
And Time, Time, Time has plans for him

“They're bringing all the men back
They've been away on the draught”
“But there is factory work
If you don't mind the dust and the dirt
Packing those boxes down
At a warehouse in town”
“A lifetime away from the mud and the rain”
Of Flanders fields where many remain
I am slowly healing from pain
Healing from those wounds
That cannot be seen, do not ooze
My heart never beat the same,
The way that it ought to have been
Sure, I survived, but it hung heavy on my mind
It’s clear to me now I was crippled inside
I became more like my father in my own life
My dreams turned to dust through this failure of trust
A lifetime away from that whirling waltzer of love
I made you my wife
We had a good life
Or that’s what I tell myself…”

He stands so tall in his cloak of night
Towering high in the light of the moon
In a room without windows, so bare
Just a hole which once passed for a roof
And the wind gets up
Blowing gustily in
And you try flap your angel wings
But beat as they may
There can be no escape
For these chains are heavy and thick
He'll talk to you of your failures in life
In the ambiguous language of art
And his shadowed eyes reveal nothing to you
Of the inner workings of his heart
His goal is unclear
His methods are cruel
And he questions away without proof
But no answer you give
Could satisfy his
Quest for what he calls The Truth
You once built a home for yourself here ---
Welcomed him into your garden grove
Where in fragrant days of sunshine you'd talk
Near where scented lavender grows
You were both so young
You were still quick to smile
His charm was always a thorny rose
Your love was a rock
But he taught you to roll
Your heart became more like a stone
I believe he built a fire in here
Calling it Passion, without any bounds
He taught you how to long for him
And he taught you how not to be proud
As you spread your self
On a sheep skin rug
As you both fell down as one
The flames grew high
And the roof caught fire
Your little home was undone
He stands so tall in his cloak of night
Towering high in the light of the moon
In a room without windows, so bare
Just a hole which once passed for a roof
And the wind gets up
Blowing gustily in
And you try flap your angel wings
But beat as they may
There can be no escape
For these chains are heavy and thick

Time, time, time has crept up on me
And time, time took the best of me
Time, time, fear love and young folly
Time is making a mockery
Time, from the turn of the century the regrets they are plenty I realise
Through running fear, fighting ne'er doing the right thing I feel
I feel like I lived in disguise
Time, time, time has crept up on me
And time, time took the best of me
Time, time, I look at my family
And I'm not sure of all that I see
Time, the fruit fell far from this damaged tree a change to the history of our line
Through doing the wrong thing the right thing has happened and I
Feel I could have done worse with my life

Never understood how
I got so worn out
Became so boring ---
Once was exciting
All seems like yesterday
Did it all just sublimate?
In the blinking of an eye ---
One of two that’re so tired
And all I say now is
Can’t understand how…
But Baby, don't you worry ‘bout me.
Baby, don't you worry ‘bout me.
Baby, don't you worry ‘bout me.
All the days of my life
Lined up in a neat line
Where I kissed my first love
The house where I grew up
All the friends I once had
Came and went like fickle fads
Gone into the shadows
Left for Time to swallow
What then do I know?
It’s the Henry Boring Show!
But Baby, don't you worry ‘bout me.
Baby, don't you worry ‘bout me.
Baby, don't you worry ‘bout me.
When the war was all won
Couldn't stand what I'd done
But it was only orders
Perimeters, borders….
What about my children?
What did I teach them?
When did I lose them?
What would I say to them?
Something quite awful
Makes me uncomfortable
But, Baby, don't you worry ‘bout me.
Baby, don't you worry ‘bout me.
Baby, don't you worry ‘bout me.
Nothing really matters
In the unravelling of Time
Love lies in tatters
Shreds of gold throughout my life
All precious Memory
So don’t you worry
Don’t you worry about
Worry about me.
I love this old town
But something broke down
Still so much happening
Always gently humming
Behind a white piano
It's a song we all know
It's sad and real slow
Just stops when we’re old
But let me be clear
I’ve lived and died here
So Baby, don't you worry ‘bout me.
Baby, don't you worry ‘bout me.
Baby, don't you worry ‘bout me.

I hang the blame on your coat hook --- on tenterhooks
Under your name, you took a love --- and it crumbled at your touch
Life is a series of situations
You failed to realize all the implications
I hang the blame on your coat hook --- the tender hook
Under your name, you took a love --- and it crumbled at your touch
Life is a series of situations
You failed to realize all the implications
You need to try again to make it out there
Too many times you’ve stood and faltered out there
Stood and faltered out there. Down there.
Life is a series of situations
You failed to realize all the implications
It’s all circumstance and sin
For men can make many things;
Homes and wars and aeroplanes
Bridges, politics, parlour games
Make fun, make war, make friends, make haste
Beg, borrow, steal or kill in vain
It’s not only about what you take
Because everyone must die someday
And you must surely see that now ---
Love is really all that counts
Circumstance and sin have leveled out
And I for one am curious as to how you would fare a second time around
And so, another term of Earth shall come to pass
To try to be kind is all anyone can ask
For you were not a wicked man but you were not great ---
I am sending you back to try again
Hey boy, I’m not through with you
I’m sending you back down!

Ashes
05:01
|
|||
In the glowing tongues of flame
I became born again
In the rubble of their next war
I’m a brokenhearted man
With broken hearted hands
In the ashes of the Empire
Through a cavernous void I fall
To the summit of all life
Where angels sing believe me
Snow and rainwater flow
Over rocks to pastures new
Where you and I become the morning dew
Fly alongside me, I am once again
Fly alongside me my friend
Take back to skies again
A restful, peaceful end
Where angels sing and dark clouds form
Will I be welcomed friend?
Despite this bitter end
A life well lived is mine for sure?
Fly alongside me, I am once again
Fly alongside me my friend
In the glowing tongues of candles, I am but a flame
In the rubble of their next war, I am born again
In the ashes of the Empire; a world never the same
Peace upon the continent, though fragile it remains
From a brokenhearted woman, I take my father’s name
As cold and crying infant, I am once again.
(Baby Don’t You Worry ‘Bout Me….)
