Yes it is evening, it's always the evening. Out in the garden, I am freezing. Candle still burning, your coat on my arm, my breath in the air and the air is calm. The tiles in the bathroom, the paint on the door, the things that need mending, your clothes on the floor. You won't pick them up at all. You are the one that I've been waiting for
You are the one that I've been waiting for
You are the one that I've been waiting for
I saw a serpent biting its tail and a host of angels drowning in flame. I've seen beauty lost, un-replaced --- all I know is that I have to wait. The sky is on fire if you look to the West where the fields burn black and the city is lost. There is nowhere safe for me anymore. You are the one that I've been waiting for
You are the one that I've been waiting for
You are the one that I've been waiting for
Although I didn’t know
I didn’t know
How could I not know!?
My friends are all scattered throughout time and space but we come together when the effort is made. I've been to more weddings than funerals to date, but I'm aware that one day that will change. Waited one Christmas for the birth of a boy in a hospital ward filled with women and noise. I'll write you your own song, until then be sure, you are the one that I've been waiting for
You are the one that I've been waiting for
You are the one that I've been waiting for
You are the one that I've been waiting for

Well, I guess that they finally caught me
laying low abroad --- it’s time to face the music because someone’s been keeping score
I never really got lazy, I guess that I just got bored of living like an outlaw, hiding from The Law
And I’ve been gone so long, my son, I forgot what I was running for
Violence and I --- two silhouettes against the sun, barely one step in front of Karma’s frosty touch
The wagon pulls up to a stop, I keep my eyes fixed on the door --- tense my back in anticipation and stay close to the floor
I’m ready to use my fists, my jaw, my teeth, my claws. Read all about it tomorrow --- it’s theatre --- and I fucking love applause!
Oh, I’ve been gone so long, my son, I forgot what I was running for
Violence and I --- two silhouettes against the sun, barely one step in front of Karma’s frosty touch
I’ve been gone so long, my son, I forgot what I was running for
I’ve been gone so long, my son, I forgot what I was running for
I’ve been gone so long, my son, I forgot what I was running for
I’ve been gone so long, my son, I forgot what I was running for
Violence and I --- two silhouettes against the sun, barely one step in front of Karma’s frosty touch

I heard that my mother was looking for me in the places where a young man may be when trouble has found him alone on the sea and washed him up where the tide’s lazy
She tried the hospital, the jailhouse --- an ad in the paper but I am running from the safety, not any given danger
The trick is to just disappear, completely
Everything, everything, so sick of the sound, got sick of just waiting around for something to happen --- let chaos take a hold of me now
I went to the cathedral and dropped to the floor. I was desperately seeking forgiveness, of sorts, for all my misdeeds and all my dark thoughts, but all I received was a sermon
Mother tried the army, the graveyard --- all of our neighbours but I am running from the safety, not any given danger
The trick is to just disappear, completely
Spiraling, spiraling in discordant sound, got tired of waiting around for praise and attention --- let chaos take a hold of me now
I heard that my mother was looking for me in the places where a young man may be when he’s swallowed a chestful and cannot breathe for the tide won’t care where he reaches

So you're stuck here, polishing trinkets that you know will never sell
While the sun goes down behind the shutters, this town is cold and, out of season, it's hell
And all the lovers have left town
The streets are empty now
And you're stuck here.
Once again, as the waves go out, you wonder if they'll return
Just another doubt --- but of course they do, they always do and that's the only lesson you've learned
And all the lovers have left town
It's nearly Christmas now
And you're stuck here
All in all, a pretty bad year
But you're here because they pay you, Dear,
and I know your heart is dulling ---
they say worse things happen at sea
so strike up your courage
and leave
Because all the lovers have left town
It's unrecognisable now
And you're stuck here
