The Treatment
I saw a different set of doctors on the second day
Their opinion was much the same ---
Too much relief with too little strain
And it was with me where they laid the blame
But I’ve been beaten
My heart aches from the treatment
And I’ve been meaning to turn my life around
Anyhow
The hospital is comfortable with the quality of a dream
The nurses here are beautiful and attend to me
Well they’re all glamour models, porn princesses and fetish queens
The problem is, I don’t appear to be able to leave
But I’ve been beaten
My heart aches from the treatment
And I’ve been meaning to turn my life around
Anyhow
We can give you pills
We can make you well
We can make you feel much better
Not the national health
We can give you pills
We can make you well
We can make you feel much better
Not the national hell
Oh, I’ve been beaten
My heart aches from the treatment
And I’ve been meaning to turn my life around
Anyhow
Oh, I’ve been needing my diagnosis treating
And I’ve been dreaming thoughts which aren’t allowed
Anyhow

Oh Brother

Oh Brother
Oh Brother, won’t you give me some good news before I loose my little mind?
I’ve been sleeping oh so lightly, waiting patient all my life
Now my head may burst with dark foreboding truths
I am so scared, so scared, so young, so out of tune
Can’t tell what is wrong or right anymore
I just need to see the light that first lead me to your front door
Oh Brother, won’t you give me some good news before I loose my little mind?
I’ve been sleeping oh so lightly, waiting patient all my life
All the white lies I have ever told
They cling to the dew of your grassy fold
The devil that resides in me is well aware
Of my sins --- it is to him I confess this prayer
Oh Brother, won’t you give me some good news before I loose my little mind?
I’ve been sleeping oh so lightly, waiting patiently behind
Patient all my life
Patient all my life
Patient all my life

Cold
Can you hear the night outside my love?
The echoes in the troubled distance ---
Chaos in the blackness ---
A requiem for a hungry spirit looking for a home
My hands are cold --- this place is cold
I can’t stop my wretched body shaking
I only have these hands
Please draw the blinds and we will light a candle ---
We will light them all
You catch my gaze and put me away in the pockets of your apron
Hold me like you will never let me go
Brave girl. Turn off the television --- it will do no good
And when we die don’t leave me in another life
Even if the world is awash with water and ice
Can you hear the sea beyond my love?
The waves are filtered through the trees
Weeds creep into my hair
A chorus line for a thirsty sailor listening out for songs
Our hearts are cold --- the world is cold
Can’t stop our ravaged turning souls
We’re only blessed with one heart
Please draw the blinds and we will light a candle ---
A candle for the world
You catch my gaze and set me in flames with the shimmer of your night gown
Stained with salt we will forever go
Brave girl. Turn off the television --- it will do no good
And when we die don’t leave me in another life
Even if it turns out to be a shining paradise
Can you hear the rain outside my love?
I am cold.

Rue St Veuve
I have seen it all before
In it’s deep misery
Up there in the spot light
Where I would never choose to be
(Behold) In the city’s main square!
Full of garish people in a gaudy parade
(“Stop pushing the wrong way, my friend”)
The theatre is still a way away
The theatre is still a way away
I called upon the hour glass
Then I told you the end of the play
A twisted, morbid epilogue
Words foaming from a disused drain
(Behold) In the city’s main square!
Full of garish people in a gaudy parade
(“Stop pushing the wrong way, my friend”)
The theatre is still a way away
The theatre is still a way away
Back then, that was not true
But it came around to be out of necessity or need
I would slit his throat if he threatened me
Well, stopping short of literally

In The Garden / On The Mound
Scene I. (In the tulip gardens at midnight, late spring)
Tulip array; in abundance ---
As Psyche opens her wings
I have seen things in the cold night air
I have seen things that I know are not there
Out in the gardens at midnight
In ground frost and moonlight
I know things are not easy
I know times are not well
As the butterfly spins with colourful wings
I see double the scene reflected in the green of your eyes
Scene II. (Early spring, a vast and sun-lit field at noon)
Daffodil mound in the sunlight ---
Beating the air, she sweeps low
There are things I know --- in the corn fields in spring
I’m sure I’ve seen her --- I have found things
New life in the fields behold
Physical death cannot claim the soul
I know things are not easy
I know times are not well
As the butterfly spins with colourful wings
I see double the scene reflected in the green of your eyes
I know things are not easy
I know times are not well
As the butterfly spins with colourful wings
I see double the scene reflected in the green of your eyes
Double the scene reflected in the green of your eyes
